FAQs
Questions people often ask
Straight answers to the questions we hear most. If yours is not here, just ask.
Getting started
Do I need a will?
If you want a say in who inherits your home, savings and belongings, who looks after your children and who sorts out your affairs, then yes. A will also makes things far simpler for the people you leave behind.
What happens if I die without a will?
Your estate is shared out under the intestacy rules for England and Wales. These follow a fixed order of relatives and take no account of your wishes. Unmarried partners and step-children, for example, receive nothing under those rules.
What is a lasting power of attorney?
A lasting power of attorney, or LPA, lets you choose people you trust to make decisions for you if you lose the ability to make them yourself. There are two types: one for property and financial affairs, and one for health and welfare.
How do I get started?
Just get in touch. We will arrange a time to talk, at home if you prefer, and take it from there.
Meetings and home visits
Where do meetings take place?
Wherever suits you. Home visits are available across Norfolk and Suffolk, and many people find it easier to talk things through at home.
Can my partner and I be seen together?
Yes. Couples often make matching wills, known as mirror wills, and we are happy to see you both at the same time.
Costs
How much does a will cost?
It depends on what you need. We will tell you the cost before any work begins. See our pricing page for how we work out a quote.
After your documents are signed
Where should I keep my will?
Somewhere safe, dry and known to your executors. Your executors need the original document, so it is worth telling them where it is. We can talk through storage options with you.
How often should I review my will?
Whenever something significant changes: marriage, divorce, a new child or grandchild, a death in the family, a house move or a change in your finances. Marriage in particular usually cancels an earlier will unless it was made with the marriage in mind.
Who do I contact if something changes?
Us. Get in touch and we will talk through whether your documents need updating.
Ready to talk it through?
Get in touch and we will arrange a time that suits you. We are happy to come to your home if that is easier.
